Ultimate List: Early 2018 Most Anticipated Books

January 4, 2018 12:58 pm Published by 1 Comment

I hope everyone had a wonderful and champagne infused New Year celebration. 2017 was an interesting year and I, for one, am extremely excited to see nicer, more civil things in 2018. And that’s all I’m going to say about that…

I say every year that I plan on taking more control of my reading list and this year, I actually mean it…I said what I said, yo. I plan on being a touch more discerning with my time so I’m making a list and I’m checking it twice…wait, sorry, too soon for Christmas puns.  I am making a list and so far, it’s shaping up into a diverse and incredible reading journey. My Early-ish 2018 Most Anticipated Books contain some new to me authors, some continuations of series I love and some new ideas from trusted authors. I’m sure I’ve missed plenty of good ones, I mean, as romance readers, our cup definitely runneth over, don’t you think? Let me know if any of these are on your radar…

I’ve had a copy of this beauty on my desk for a while now. The cover grabbed my eye immediately and then the blurb solidified attention. Guillory is a debut author and I need to finish up this post so I can get to reading!

THE WEDDING DATE by Jasmine Guillory

January 30

A groomsman and his last-minute guest are about to discover if a fake date can go the distance in a fun and flirty debut novel.

Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn’t normally do. But there’s something about Drew Nichols that’s too hard to resist.

On the eve of his ex’s wedding festivities, Drew is minus a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend…

After Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought possible, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley, where she’s the mayor’s chief of staff. Too bad they can’t stop thinking about the other…

They’re just two high-powered professionals on a collision course toward the long distance dating disaster of the century–or closing the gap between what they think they need and what they truly want…

If the third book in this series is half as good as the ones that came before it, you can bet good money on this one being a winner! Miss Independent Regan as a mail-order bride has intrigue written all over it!

TEMPEST by Beverly Jenkins

January 30

What kind of mail-order bride greets her intended with a bullet instead of a kiss? One like Regan Carmichael—an independent spirit equally at home in denims and dresses. Shooting Dr. Colton Lee in the shoulder is an honest error, but soon Regan wonders if her entire plan to marry a man she’s never met is a mistake. Colton, who buried his heart along with his first wife, insists he only wants someone to care for his daughter. Yet Regan is drawn to the unmistakable desire in his gaze.

Regan’s far from the docile bride Colton was expecting. Still, few women would brave the wilds of Wyoming Territory for an uncertain future with a widower and his child. The thought of having a bold, forthright woman like Regan in his life—and in his arms—begins to inspire a new dream. And despite his family’s disapproval and an unseen enemy, he’ll risk all to make this match a real union of body and soul.

Erickson had me at hello with BLOOD GUARD and BLOOD VEIL drops April 3rd so of course, I’m all over that follow-up. I’m so glad I got off the fence and started reading her words. ZERO HOUR the first book in her Wired and Dangerous series grabbed me by the eyeballs and I don’t want to let go.

ZERO HOUR by Megan Erickson

January 30

Hacker extraordinaire Roarke Brennan lives each hour – each breath – to avenge his brother’s murder. His first move: put together a team of the best coders he knows. They’re all brilliant, specialized, and every one an epic pain in his ass. Only now Wren Lee wants in too, threatening to upset their delicate balance. The girl Roarke never allowed himself to want is all grown up with sexy confidence and a dark past … and she’s the wild card he can’t control.

Roarke might still think she’s a kid, but Wren’s been to hell and back. Nothing and nobody can stop her – especially the tatted-up, cocky-as-all-hell hacker. But when years of longing and chemistry collide, Wren and Roarke discover that revenge may be a dish best served blazing hot.

If you know me at all, you know this one is a no-brainer, right? Even if you don’t know Tiffany Reisz, which, I’m not sure how you are on this blog without knowledge of her, just look at the blurb…and then set aside some time around Valentine’s Day. You can thank me later!

THE LUCKY ONES by Tiffany Reisz

February 13

They called themselves “the lucky ones.” They were seven children either orphaned or abandoned by their parents and chosen by legendary philanthropist and brain surgeon Dr. Vincent Capello to live in The Dragon, his almost magical beach house on the Oregon Coast. Allison was the youngest of the lucky ones living an idyllic life with her newfound family…until the night she almost died, and was then whisked away from the house and her adopted family forever.

Now, thirteen years later, Allison receives a letter from Roland, Dr. Capello’s oldest son, warning her that their father is ill and in his final days. Allison determines she must go home again and confront the ghosts of her past. She’s determined to find out what really happened that fateful night–was it an accident or, as she’s always suspected, did one of her beloved family members try to kill her?

But digging into the past can reveal horrific truths, and when Allison pieces together the story of her life, she’ll learns the terrible secret at the heart of the family she once loved but never really knew.

A vivid and suspenseful tale of family, grief, love—and the dark secrets that bind everything together—Tiffany Reisz’s latest is enthralling to the final page.

Lisa Kleypas, Ravenels…enough said. Historical romance brilliance in a book…

HELLO STRANGER by Lisa Kleypas

February 27

A woman who defies her time

Dr. Garrett Gibson, the only female physician in England, is as daring and independent as any man—why not take her pleasures like one? Yet she has never been tempted to embark on an affair, until now. Ethan Ransom, a former detective for Scotland Yard, is as gallant as he is secretive, a rumored assassin whose true loyalties are a mystery. For one exhilarating night, they give in to their potent attraction before becoming strangers again.

A man who breaks every rule

As a Ravenel by-blow spurned by his father, Ethan has little interest in polite society, yet he is captivated by the bold and beautiful Garrett. Despite their vow to resist each other after that sublime night, she is soon drawn into his most dangerous assignment yet. When the mission goes wrong, it will take all of Garrett’s skill and courage to save him. As they face the menace of a treacherous government plot, Ethan is willing to take any risk for the love of the most extraordinary woman he’s ever known.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in Alisha Rai’s Forbidden Hearts series, I LOVED book two so that means the third book fits naturally on my Most Anticipated List, don’t you think?

March 27

Well-behaved women don’t lust after men who love to misbehave.

Heiress Evangeline Chandler knows how to keep a secret . . . like her life-long crush on the tattooed hottie who just happens to be her big brother’s friend. She’s a Chandler, after all, and Chandlers don’t hook up with the help. Then again, they also don’t disobey their fathers and quit their respectable jobs, so good-girl rules may no longer apply.

Gabriel Hunter hides the pain of his past behind a smile, but he can’t hide his sudden attraction to his friend’s sheltered little sister. Eve is far too sweet to accept anything less than forever and there’s no chance of a future between the son of a housekeeper and the town’s resident princess.

When a wedding party forces Eve and Gabe into tight quarters, keeping their hands off each other will be as hard as keeping their clothes on. The need that draws them together is stronger than the forces that should shove them apart . . . but their sparks may not survive the explosion when long-buried secrets are finally unearthed.

I may or may not have a shrine to Alma Katsu in my office, don’t look behind the curtain, my friends. Her Taker Trilogy is one of my all-time favorite reads, ever. It’s different, it’s hard to read at times but it kept me utterly captivated. Her latest book is not romance, it falls more into the historical fiction and maybe horror genre and I am alright with that. It’s an interesting and perhaps a touch paranormal take on the Donner party for Pete’s sake. You know Katsu is nothing if not well researched and for me, March can’t get here quick enough. I know this is a romance blog but this book is seriously, my most anticipated book of the entire year.

THE HUNGER by Alma Katsu

March 6

Evil is invisible, and it is everywhere.

Tamsen Donner must be a witch. That is the only way to explain the series of misfortunes that have plagued the wagon train known as the Donner Party. Depleted rations, bitter quarrels, and the mysterious death of a little boy have driven the pioneers to the brink of madness. They cannot escape the feeling that someone–or something–is stalking them. Whether it was a curse from the beautiful Tamsen, the choice to follow a disastrous experimental route West, or just plain bad luck–the 90 men, women, and children of the Donner Party are at the brink of one of the deadliest and most disastrous western adventures in American history.

While the ill-fated group struggles to survive in the treacherous mountain conditions–searing heat that turns the sand into bubbling stew; snows that freeze the oxen where they stand–evil begins to grow around them, and within them. As members of the party begin to disappear, they must ask themselves “What if there is something waiting in the mountains? Something disturbing and diseased…and very hungry?

To sex things up a bit after such a heavy Katsu read, a tasty anthology with such heavy-hitting authors is just what the doctor ordered. Look at that line-up, it’s glorious!

EXPOSED: A Romance Anthology

March 13

Hot. Naked. Guys. Reading.
When the sexiest Top 30 Under 30 men agree to pose naked for the “Expose Yourself To A Good Book” charity calendar, their hot bodies aren’t the only thing that gets EXPOSED. Ten brand new romances with M/F, M/M, F/F and menage pairings from bestselling and award-winning authors, there’s something for everyone in this limited release anthology.

Annabeth Albert
When Landon, a genius physicist, is picked for a charity calendar, he must deal with an inconvenient attraction to Bailey, his rising-star photographer. Can he slay enough demons from his past to ensure a future together with him?

Karen Booth
Jobless and painfully single, Samantha agrees to drive musician Duncan to a photo shoot. He’s in town for only five days, so sexy, and she’s eager for a no-strings fling. But Duncan shoots straight for the heart, making her unsure how she’ll ever survive his goodbye.

Amy Jo Cousins
Garden center manager Kate Rhee is on a mission. No more hookups with women or second-guessing her recent break up with an unavailable man. Too bad the foxy, pink-haired bar owner she meets at a naked calendar photo shoot has sworn off girlfriends. Because Kate isn’t doing casual. She can totally resist that temptation. Totally.

Robin Covington
Oliver Burns publicly bragged he’d sign the reclusive artist “G”- creator of the First Nations graphic novel, Ghost Warriors – to his comic publishing company. But that gets tough when “G” is Gareth Rain – the man he pulled a post-one-night-stand runner on years ago and the man he’s never forgotten.

Santino Hassell
Frustrated reporter Tatyana Rush reluctantly agrees to cover the calendar shoot of Jonathan Fox—journalism’s newest darling. She resents his overnight success, but her attitude changes when she realizes Fox hopes to use her article to come out as bisexual … and that he’s had a crush on her for years.

Vanessa North
For Kaitlyn, seeing her best friend Gordon naked is no big deal—until watching Sean tie him up changes everything.

Tamsen Parker
Teague has been License to Game’s bassist for over a decade, during which time he’s slept with almost everyone in his path. But it’s always felt like going through the motions. Until he sees his bandmate Christian naked at a charity photoshoot and suddenly, he knows what it is to want.

Roan Parrish
When buttoned-up botanist Stefan Albemarle meets freewheeling urban gardener Milo Rios, it’s hatred at first sight. But hatred quickly turns to lust as Milo shows him how exquisite it can feel to lose control. When opposites attract, love blooms in unexpected places.

Tiffany Reisz
Jason “Still” Waters’ life looks perfect from the outside—money, fame, and the words “World Champion Bull-Rider” after his name. But Jason has a secret, one he never planned on telling anybody…until he meets Simone. She’s the kinky girl of his dreams…and his conservative family’s worst nightmare.

Karen Stivali
When organizing a naked charity calendar puts Rose’s tenure bid in jeopardy, the last person she wants help from is Michael, the gorgeous, arrogant lawyer she butted heads with during his shoot. He’ll defend her for free, but if their secrets come out they could both pay with their hearts.

Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood is a gimme for me. I love the Brothers and now they are working with the Band of Bastards. I’m pretty sure not reading a BDB book is illegal. Oh, and it goes without saying, I’m already eyeballs deep into BLOOD FURY that comes out next week.

April 10

Having allied themselves with the Band of Bastards, the Brotherhood is committed now more than ever to eradicating the Lessening Society. Recovering from their most recent battle against the last of the lessers, the Brotherhood comes to realize that the fight against their enemies is far from over. Throe, Xcor’s former second in command, is using an ancient tome to summon a new army engineered by a force more dangerous and evil than the Omega. And now the brothers of the Black Dagger Brotherhood will be tested both at home and on the battlefield.

I love the writing duo of Christina Lauren. Their stories flow effortlessly and are always engaging. I trust them with the journey they take me on. This new book of theirs looks to be more of a Women’s Fiction style tale. I see a growing trend in romance authors we know and love, moving into the women’s fiction land. Personally, I don’t have a problem with that but I’m not a “strictly romance reader”…I’m a “predominately romance reader” but I like to read a little bit of everything…something you’ll see more from me as the year goes on and I flex my personal reading preference skills on you guys! (sidenote: not to confuse anyone about my romance preference, my heart lives in romance and if a book is listed as such, it had better have an HEA and all of the good things we expect from the genre) Having cleared that up, bring on some wf and chicklit, I’m game! A good book, is a good book, right?

LOVE AND OTHER WORDS by Christina Lauren

April 10

Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away.

But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos—the first and only love of her life—the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly teen friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother…only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her.

Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco reading books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love.

I told you guys I’m looking forward to reading more non-romance books. Mystery, suspense, thrillers, crime…that shit is my jam! One can not watch copious amounts of Criminal Minds and not develop a love of mystery. Putting the pieces of the puzzle together keeps the energy moving at breakneck speed! This is a new to me author and I’m super excited to dive right in!

THE GIRL I USED TO BE by Mary Torjussen

April 24

The morning after real estate agent Gemma Brogan has dinner with a prospective client, she’s furious at herself for drinking so much. But there will be more to regret than a nasty hangover.

She starts receiving mementos from that night: A photo of a hallway kiss. A video of her complaining about her husband. And worse…much worse. The problem is she doesn’t remember any of it.

As the blackmailing and menace ramp up, Gemma fears for her already shaky marriage. The paranoia, the feeling that her life is spiraling out of control, will take her back to another night–years ago–that changed everything. And Gemma will realize just how far the shadows from her past can reach…

We get ROUGH RIDE on Feb 13 and everyone loves a little Chaos in their lives, amIright? But, let’s take a closer look at Kristen Ashley’s Honey series. Now, I know fem-dommes aren’t for everyone but I’m just gonna say, this one has explosive chemistry written all over it and I’m not sure who will top in THE GREATEST RISK.

THE GREATEST RISK by Kristen Ashley

May 1

A woman unable to connect, struggling to hide another part of her. A man burning to learn her truth, and make her whole. Through explosive passion and deep exploration, they are about to take the greatest risk of all. But will they be able to take that leap, and come out on the other side together?

I’ve been a long time lover of all things Laura Kaye. She has a new series coming our way, Warrior Fight Club and it’s so new, it doesn’t have a cover. I’m linking to the Goodreads profile so you can get it on your TBR list!

May 22

Loving her is the biggest fight of his life…

Home from the Marines, Noah Cortez has a secret he doesn’t want his oldest friend, Kristina Moore, to know. It kills him to push her away, especially when he’s noticing just how sexy and confident she’s become in his absence. But, angry and full of fight, he’s not the same man anymore either. Which is why Warrior Fight Club sounds so good.

Kristina loves teaching, but she wants more out of life. She wants Noah—the boy she’s crushed on and waited for. Except Noah is all man now—in ways both oh so good and troubling, too. Still, she wants who he’s become—every war-hardened inch. And when they finally stop fighting their attraction, it’s everything Kristina never dared hope for.

But Noah is secretly spiraling, and when he lashes out, it threatens what he and Kristina have found. The brotherhood of the fight club helps him confront his demons, but only Noah can convince the woman he loves that he’s finally ready to fight for everything.

That’s my list, did I miss something you’re looking forward to? I’ll come back later in the year and talk about books dropping in late summer – winter. I already have my list going and I’m looking at you, Jeaniene Frost!

I cleared out my currently reading on GR. It felt like they were mocking me. Trying to focus on one book at a time and finish it. And no goal for # read. I have had the worst slump since the fall. Maybe 1 book a month. I need to step away from the k dramas. I do have a few from that list:
    The Wedding Date
    Love and Other Words
    Hello Stranger

Plus one from an online friend her first book, Waiting for the Sun. That one makes me nervous , though super excited for her, as I have never read a book from someone I know.
