For this installment of Reading Outside of the Box I’m talking poetry. I love poetry. I love words, the cadence of words, the feelings sometimes simple but complex words leave you with. I love that in many poems, so many emotions can found. I especially love poems about love. Love can be as hard as it is beautiful and poems tend to make you find it.
Now, some personal reasons I love poetry; the men in my life. My husband has written me a love poem for every special occasion in our relationship, right down to our first date. Ok, oftentimes, they are way too personal and dirty to share with the class but sometimes, they are poignant and sweet. What can I say, the man has a winning way with words. Hell, he actually crafted a funny poem as part of my Mother’s eulogy, proving yet again that words can heal. It should come as no surprise that old oldest child is a poet. He, too, is a lover of words and is actually a published poet…something he reminds me of daily now that he’s home from college for the summer. I can not wait for him to experience that first brush of love so we can witness it shape his words.
It was a serendipitous surprise when an email from the publishers of LOVE HER WILD landed in my inbox. While it might seem like an odd pairing to send the info about a book of poetry to a romance review blog, I think it’s a stroke of genius. Romance books are all about love, desire, loss, and happily ever afters – poetry is just another way to get us there, to the warm feeling of satisfaction, don’t you think? It’s my job to share with you all of the diverse love stories my Nerds and I read and let me tell you, LOVE HER WILD fits the bill. For me, poems are best read in paper form. I love flipping through, finding a good one and dog-earing the page. The good ones demand you revisit them.

This poem in particular resonated with me. I feel these words are the epitome of love and romance. It’s unconditional love, following the journey wherever it takes you. It’s what I want for my kids, for all of us. It’s beauty without bounds.
Her heart was wild
but I didn’t want to catch it
I wanted to
run with it
to set mine free.
