Bite Me (Bitten)
I had the perfect life; an awesome job in advertising, a gorgeous high rise apartment, and a flirtation with the guy down the hall. Then it all came crashing down. Two months later I was a cocktail waitress living in a tiny one bedroom apartment. I had also developed a serious ‘men suck’ attitude.
That all changed the night I met the beautiful and enigmatic Conner Savage. But there was just one little problem…he said he was a vampire. Figures a man that hot would be batshit crazy. Or so I thought. It didn’t take me long to realize that Conner wasn’t a nut job and that I was addicted to him.
With every moment we spent together he drew me deeper into his world and the supernatural culture in which he lived.
Now I had a choice: the vampire I craved or a normal life. Couldn’t be easier, right?
In the essence of full disclosure, I have to admit, C.C. Wood is a friend of mine. Also, the heroine in this book bears some striking similarities to real life me. Names have been changed to protect the not so innocent but yes, the lipstick thing is absolutely my mother. What can I say, C.C. knows some of my secrets and she’s not afraid to tell them in the snarkiest way possible. Having said that, C.C. knows I would (privately) kindly and constructively tell her the book sucks if it really did. Luckily, Bite Me does not suck…at all. I fucking love a well paced paranormal romance. LOVE IT! Paranormal romance is what got me started in book blogging. It’s my go to when I’m in a book slump. People, if you don’t read paranormal, you must start now. The sex is so hot and like I’ve been screaming forever, the bodies are much more durable!!
I love a good Scottish accent and a sexy, alpha man in a kilt. Conner is the mother fucking man. I love him. He’s the perfect foil for Donna’s dry wit and sassy attitude. Fiercely independent, Donna has trouble accepting the level of protection Conner’s instincts demand. Conner has lived a very long time and now that he’s found his soul mate, he’s not walking away. The man is old enough to know how to manage a woman like Donna and heaven knows managing a woman like Donna is no easy task. C.C. does a great job explaining the hierarchy of Conner’s vampire world without overwhelming you with too many details. The world building is clean and concise. I love paranormal stories that have creatures living all around us, blending in. If I’m being honest, I like to think that’s actually happening – hey, who am I to say it isn’t? Shit, for all you know I went out and bit someone for a midnight snack last night. (I’ll never tell…mostly because C.C. might write a book about it!)
Since you know I love to talk about cock…let’s move on to the sex. C.C. Wood writes excellent sex. Her Girl Next Door series is a testament to that. When you add in the extra sensuality of a vampire biting and claiming his mate, well that just throws the hot over the top. Who wouldn’t want to be bitten if said bite gave you leg numbing orgasms that made you see spots behind your eyes. Paranormal sex, people…it’s where it’s at! Conner’s had over 300 years to perfect his moves, that Donna is a lucky bitch. From foreplay, to dirty talk to going down, making love and straight up claiming and fucking, Conner Savage has skills. If I were Donna I’d be AOK with being locked in a basement with that sexy for the next millennium or two.
Bite Me has some serious suspense and drama to bookend the sexy times. You don’t live 300 years without making some enemies. Now that Donna is a fixture in Conner’s life, Conner has a weakness. Being the fearless writer she is, C.C. is not afraid to go there, to the dark place that hangs out in suspense-land. The suspense aspect of this book is very impressive, I can’t wait to read what she has in store for us next. The bad shit in Bite Me has been brewing for a while, it’s not going away without a fight. C.C. is able to craft a tale, portion it out with resolution while leaving enough open for several more stories. Theoretically this book could be a stand alone, but you wouldn’t want to do that. Bite Me sets up the trials and tribulations of a group of girlfriends who’ve unknowingly wandered into the world of paranormal. One of Donna’s girls, Ivie, and vampire Alexander are up next. Alexander is old…ancient old. Ivie goes through some very serious shit in Bite Me, she’s going to need all the tricks Alexander has to get her through it. C.C. teases with the mention of werewolves, fairies and other creatures. I’m more than curious to see which sort of creature Donna’s other girlfriends will end up with.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t say thank you to C.C. for making my character as badass as I pretend to be in my own imagination! It was a little freaky knowing she was thinking of me when you wrote some of that completely scandalicious sex but that’s okay, what’s a little freak amongst friends?
